Goth-Trad – New Epoch LP
Dubstep may still be somewhat underground in Japan, but the country’s primary bass export, Goth-Trad, is a monster on the international scene. As a kid he was tuned onto the sounds of electronic music bands and labels like Kraftwerk and Warp Records thanks to foreign television stations. And now, many years later, he releases most of his music on one of Britain’s most influential dubstep labels, Deep Medi. Most recently Goth-Trad has released “New Epoch,” his highly-anticipated fourth album, in a beautiful 3 x 180 gram vinyl package that comes with a CD as well. The album is also available in CD and Digital formats (available via the Deep-Medi store and other fine online retailers).

“To be honest with you I’m not listening to Dubstep that much, the whole reason I got into making Dubstep is because it’s free. You can do anything with it. Take it all sorts of directions…. I’m always looking for more directions and styles within my work, but I’m not really thinking I’m doing Dubstep. I’m just doing my sound. I’ve been doing this style of music for almost ten years and I just say all this music is bass music. I’m putting a lot of variety into the new album. Some tunes are very techie, some tunes are much more experimental, a bit glitchy. There may be some more banging stuff. I’ve lots of ideas to keep moving with.” - Goth-Trad

Goth-Trad – Dubspot Workshop Interview @ Boston’s Together Festival
Last year Dubspot hosted a workshop with Goth-Trad at Boston’s Together Festival and we caught a moment to ask some questions about how he makes music. In the above video he discusses his musical evolution and means of production – like a fondness for the Boss RE-201 space echo pedal and building his own effects processors.
